Meet Dr. Vaia Galimanas


Dr. Vaia Galimanas

Dr. Galimanas is a board-certified Periodontist with a special interest in implant surgery and periodontal plastic surgery. Dr Galimanas graduated with the Governor Generals Medal for academic excellence from Acton High School and went on to the University of Toronto where she received her HonBSc (with High Distinction) and MSc in Laboratory Medicine and Pathobiology. Her MSc thesis focused on Treponema denticola, a bacterium implicated in Periodontal disease. She then went on to Harvard School of Dental Medicine where she obtained her Doctor of Medical Dentistry in 2009. Dr. Galimanas returned to the University of Toronto in 2010 for her specialty training in Periodontics graduating in 2014 with an MSc- her thesis focused on analyzing bacteria types in health and periodontal disease.


Dr. Galimanas is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada and a Fellow and Diplomate with the International Congress of Oral Implantologists. She is a member of the Ontario Society of Periodontics, the American Academy of Periodontology, the International Congress of Oral Implantologists, and the Ontario Dental Association. She actively participates in continuing education courses and has done extensive hands-on bone grafting (Meisenger High Altitude Conference, Vail CO, January 2015) as well as soft-tissue grafting (Pat Allen- Toronto, ON April 2015) with world experts. On a part-time basis, Dr. Galimanas acts as a clinical instructor and lecturer at the University of Toronto for the Department of Periodontics, and has lectured to medical offices on the links between periodontal disease and systemic disease.
